So, the wife and I spent a few days in Seattle visiting some of her relatives. It was actually quite an enjoyable trip, and Seattle was surprisingly nice and well kept for a big city. We did the usual tourist stuff, including wayyyy too much shopping, none of which, to my chagrin, involved any sporting goods, hardware or book stores. Down on the water front, we had dinner at a nice restaurant where, for $36, you can get almost as much fresh fish as you would from catching a medium-sized bluegill.
While we were eating, I couldn't help but overhear the high-pitched, nasal pronouncements of the uber liberal behind me at the next table. He minced out every pearl of wisdom with the haughty, self-inflated pomposity of a celebrity. He "conspiratorially" mentioned his blog about every other sentence, hinting wistfully at the pure genius it contained. Every time his table companion attempted to make any point, or really just say anything, he smarmily issued forth great pronouncements from on high about how and why she was close but wrong, using arguments that seemed rather long on his ego and opinion and very short on facts pertaining to the real world.
I wish I had written down some of his nose-in-the-air pontifications. Of course Al Gore and Global Warming were discussed, this being their Religion, to be defended against the blasphemers with all the zeal of a jihadist suicide bomber. The only quote I can remember verbatim came during their (actually his) "Hillary or Obama as the Greatest Single Human Entity in History" spiel. From the weenie, and I quote: "I don't care about their platform! I don't care about the issues! I just want strong leadership!" I could not allow such a ludicrous comment, no matter how forcefully lisped, to go unnoticed, earning me my usual elbow in the ribs from my wife.
But really, think about it. You don't care what your leader stands for as long as he leads? That's where Concentration Camps and Gulags come from, in the end. This guy didn't care if our "leader" took us briskly straight down the highway to Hell, as long as he/she did it with style.
As we left, I found myself sadly guilty of stereotyping. Listening to this weenie mincing and pontificating for a half an hour, I had pictured some zit-encrusted 20-year-old college boy with glasses and that "kewl" slovenly and unkempt look, with maybe 2-4 seconds of actual Real World experience, trying to impress some equally shallow co-ed.
In actuality, this guy was a clean-shaven, well-dressed, fit and affluent individual in his mid-50's. His wife or girlfriend was a nice-looking blonde in her 40's who had sat curled up in the booth beside him and had not uttered a word during the whole conversation. The person Thad had been primping and prinking for was another woman in her late 40's, a brunette, who bore a less-than-thrilled expression, but appeared to be willing to let him have "won" their discussions.
I tried to make sheep noises as we passed by in leaving the restaurant, but my wife's elbow is deadly.

GUNMAN BREAKS MULTIPLE LAWS!! WE MUST PASS MORE LAWS!!!
While my heart goes out to the victims and families of victims in the Virginia Tech shootings, other thoughts came to mind as I watched the Drive-By Media Talking Heads practically salivating and writhing with glee as they did their "It's all the GUN'S fault" hit pieces. They seem to think that while laws against felony assault and murder did nothing to deter the shooter, if there were more gun laws he would suddenly wake up and say, "Whoa! I guess I better not break that law, too!"
The misinformation is running rampant. If the press can't even get the tiniest facts straight, how can we accept what else they say. In the past 48 hours, I've heard that the shooter had a 22mm handgun, which would be hard on the wrist as this caliber would be the size of an anti-aircraft cannon. The Euro-weenie Press is blaming Charleton Heston personally and a British "expert" claims Americans can, "Go into any supermarket and purchase high-powered automatic weapons." A TV reporter asked a gun shop owner about pistol functioning: "If I put in a clip and put a bullet in the magazine, is it ready to go?" ABC News and the Brady Bunch are screaming about hi-capacity magazine bans again, even though it doesn't sound like the shooter had hi-cap mags, with at least two witnesses so far describing how he would fire eight rounds and then reload.
But then again, facts and insightful questions are the last thing one gets from the Mainstream Media Circus. One fact is that the college campus banned guns, even for those legally licensed to carry them in the state of Virginia. All this does is let any nut case know he is completely safe, as he will be the only one there with a firearm; i.e. no one will be able to defend themselves against his evil actions. If even one of the victims had a Concealed Carry Permit and was allowed to carry his or her own pistol, this ordeal could have ended rather quickly. The perpetrator of these evil slayings was most likely a coward at heart. And cowards know to pick on helpless, unarmed victims. Virginia Tech's "Safe" Gun-Free Zone could be more appropriately titled "Unarmed Victim Zone."
As it was, the victims did as they have been trained and brain-washed to do. They cowered in fear and were slaughtered like sheeple while awaiting "the authorities", aka The Government, to come make things right. The nation-wide emasculation of the American male, and the Victim Mentality preached by even law enforcement of "Just give up, give the bad guy anything he wants, maybe he'll go away and not hurt you." saw to it that these poor kids were helplessly and hopelessly slain by a madman. With multiple witnesses describing how the shooter stopped to reload on multiple occasions, why didn't a single person think to rush him and whack him with a chair or, this being a college dorm, a beer bottle?
The people of this country are being brainwashed not to resist, anyone or anything. But the fact remains that not even the police can PROTECT you. By Supreme Court decree, they are not even responsible to protect you individually as a person. All they can really do is show up after the fact to fill out the paperwork and fill up the body bags.
In the age in which we live, it is more important than ever to at least be able to defend oneself. Instead, the Talking Heads clamor even more for the rest of us to be disarmed so that the next time this happens even more helpless victims can be slaughtered.

RON PAUL HAS MY VOTE
I'm not sure how they crept in there, but there are a couple of actual Conservatives vying for the Republikrat Presidential Nomination. Silly me, I backed true Conservatives before, Pat Robertson and Alan Keyes. Both the media and the GOP blueblood filthy rich hierarchy will do all they can to squelch real Conservatives in the running, as they always have in the past, but this time around I think that more and more people are getting fed up with the traditional neo-con globalist RINOs.
Ron Paul won my vote and support simply by making one of his platform planks the simple yet brilliant idea of "re-instating the Constitution". That's so crazy, it just might work! He was also the only Congresscritter to actually read all 900 pages or whatever of the Patriot Act and vote against it right from the get-go. While everyone else in the Federal Government, including and especially the President, seems to think silly little things like rules and laws don't apply to them, Paul is actually saying they do and they should.
A close second in the running for real Conservative candidate would be Tom Tancredo. My verdict is still out on Fred Thompson, though what I've heard him say has been excellent. I hope he's not just another neo-con. He may not even run, however, as he has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma. He probably doesn't regard cancer as a political opportunity.
What we will get, sadly, is probably one of the three neo-con Globalist Stooges, Rudy, John or Mit. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk. Like Slick Willie and his photo-op fake duck hunt (no, he didn't buy a hunting license nor state and Federal waterfowl stamps as required by law), Mit recently joined the NRA and is now pretending to be an avid hunter in hopes of garnering the gun vote. Note to Mit; "The Second Amendment is not about ducks and deer. Look it up sometime. It's right there in the Bill of Rights in plain English." But then again, Mit is already running campaign ads in Espanol.
Manchurian McCain is even softer on the illegals. John-boy runs a close second to Hillary when it comes to the "Tell this particular audience anything they want to hear at this moment, then reverse myself completely for the next group" category. This "Maverick" media darling is about as sincere as a used car salesman in a plaid sport jacket. And everyone seems to have forgotten he was one of the Keating 5 from the big Savings and Loan scandal a few years back.
Rudy, I think, actually did a pretty good job as Mayor of New York City. But then New York City is hardly representaive of the rest of the country. Billy Jeff Clinton did OK as governor of Arkansas, too, seeing to it that the state surpassed Alabama in the prevention of ricketts, stablized population growth by making henchpersons disappear, and upgrading the Arkansas Governor's Mansion from a double-wide to a modular. As we saw, that hardly qualified him for national office.
My brilliant prediction is that I will whole heartedly support Paul or Tancredo, possibly Thompson, but that one of the neo-con Stooges will take the nomination, and I will have to turn my back completely on the Republikrats and vote for the Constitution Party or Libertarians again. I just can't hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils anymore.
